My son gave me the REAGAN DIARIES for Father's Day

My son Nicholas whom I love very much gave his Dad "The Reagan Diaries" for Father's Day. Nick knows that Ronald Reagan is my all time hero.

On Father's Day I got to reflect on how blessed I am that I have two absolutely wonderful adult children - Nicholas and Sarah.

I also reflected on the memory of my own Dad Frank McCafferty (1923-1983) who was truly a loving father.

I am very pleased that the "Reagan Diaries' are number # 1 on the NEW YORK TIMES best seller list for non-fiction books. Right on !

Billy Graham's wife dies

RUTH GRAHAM, WIFE OF EVANGELIST BILLY GRAHAM, DIES AT 87, A FAMILY SPOKEMAN SAYS....

What very sad news. As a Christian I very much admired Mrs Graham and read some of her books. Billy Graham very much loved her but he of all people know that his beloved wife has gone home to be with the Lord.

STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER OF CANADA
MARKING THE 63RD ANNIVERSARY D-DAY

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement regarding the 63rd anniversary of the D-Day invasion:

"June 6th looms large in Canada’s history. Today we mark the 63rd anniversary of one of history’s greatest battles – D-Day – and we honour the Canadian heroes who fought and died there.On June 6th, 1944, tens of thousands of Canadian soldiers, sailors and airmen took part in what remains the most important seaborne invasion of all time. Its purpose was to land the military might of Canada and her allies, from there to begin the long and laborious campaign that eventually freed Europe from Nazi tyranny.It is essential that as a nation, we remember the ordinary Canadians whose extraordinary courage and sacrifice made D-Day a success – the turning point of the Second World War.From coast to coast – from villages and farms, cities and towns, and from every corner of Canada – came these hometown heroes who risked everything in the defence of their country and the advancement of freedom.On the anniversary of the D-Day landings it is our responsibility – and our privilege – to pay proper tribute to the Canadians who fought that day, including the more than two thousand who never came home.We will never forget the sacrifice they made – or fail to defend what they fought for."

Presidents honor Billy Graham at library dedication

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For almost an hour and a half Thursday, he sat silently in his cushioned, throne-like chair, looking like a white-maned monarch as a trio of former presidents came forward to trumpet his lasting impact on the country and the world.

But when it was Billy Graham’s turn to address the crowd spread out under a long white tent, he approached the podium with a walker and then spoke with humility - and humor.

‘‘I feel like I’ve been attending my own funeral,’’ he said, drawing the biggest laugh of the day.

The 1,500 guests had come to Graham’s hometown of Charlotte not to mourn the world-famous evangelist, but to help him dedicate the $27 million Billy Graham Library.

Though it’s filled with memorabilia from a life in which he rubbed shoulders with real kings and 11 U.S. presidents, Graham said he hopes the museum will mostly continue his 60-year crusade to bring people to Jesus Christ.

‘‘This building behind me is a tool for the Gospel,’’ preached Graham, 88, his voice weakened by age and illness. ‘‘I pray that God will use (it) and speak to the many people who come through this facility.’’

Graham’s words ended a ceremony that was part media event, part Graham family reunion and part Christian equivalent of a presidential library opening.

A fleet of TV satellite trucks hogged the parking lot at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, while correspondents from ABC, NBC, Time magazine, and the Christian Broadcasting Network worked the event.

Some 85 members of the Graham family showed up and his professional family was there, too.
Nearing 100 years old and relying on a cane, George Beverly Shea belted out in baritone the hymn - ‘‘How Great Thou Art’’ - he’s sung at Graham crusades since 1947, when they held one at the Charlotte Armory.

On Thursday, the 1,500 invitees sang along with him on the chorus.

Other than Graham himself, the biggest attraction were ex-Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton.

Though they all have their own libraries and aren’t used to playing supporting roles, the three former chief executives were alternately insightful, funny, even emotional.

my Lord and Savior.
