Afghanistan President Karzai says Canada is a model to the world for all that is good.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai spoke directly to the Canadian people Friday, thanking those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in his country and assuring Canadians that their efforts have made a dramatic difference.

Speaking in the House of Commons, President Karzai – who was greeted with standing ovations before and after his remarks – also praised Canada as a model to the rest of the world and extended his condolences to the family and friends of troops who have died working to ensure the security of his nation.

“It is a pleasure to be among friends in Canada today and to be visiting a great nation that is a model to the rest of us for all that is good,” he said.

I am proud of Canada's troops in Afghanistan and for our nation's role in the world community. I am also proud of the foreign affairs leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Foreign Minister Peter MacKay.
