CORNWALL, Ont. (CP) - Prime Minister Harper says his policy on the Middle East won't change because of polls and protests.
Speaking in Cornwall after a party caucus meeting, the prime minister said any ceasefire in Lebanon must be permanent and lasting.
Harper said Canadians are not neutral on terrorist groups and they want the government to work with the international community to develop a strong position that can lead to a durable and lasting peace.
He said conditions have to be in place to make a ceasefire possible and stable.
And that isn't going to happen as long as there is a terrorist organization that's initiating violence and won't cease its attacks.

MICHAEL McCAFFERTY says:
I am proud of Canada's Prime Minister for his strong and solid leadership. I am proud to support the Prime Minister because I very much respect and admire him.

I am not going to say that Israel does not have a right to exist, nor am I saying that they do not have a right to defend themselves.
......nor am I saying that the terrorsits....(pick a name) are on the side of the angels.....
But consider that most of us were alive, when Palestine was on the map, where Israel is today. If Israel were ....through some twist of history, where Nova Scotia is ....or where Utah is...or where Morroco....you get the idea.
The Arab world is angry, as this landgrab has shoved them out of their own homes. They are treated like South Africa treated blacks, in the apartheid times. This is more the cause, than the kidnapping of some Israeli soldiers.
Some consideration, must be given to the Arab world for their loss, besides military butchery. This is not the road to peace....just more slaughter.
There is the possibility of nuclear, or biological weapons in the Middle East...They have already deployed chemical weapons.
Treat the cause, not the symptoms.
