Canadian Liberal Member of Parliament may switch to Conservatives
Alberta Liberal Member of Parliament David Kilgour announced that he may defect to the Conservative Party out of "disgust".....
David Kilgour, who represents the Edmonton-Beaumont riding, told the Calgary Sun on Friday that he is already being courted by the Conservatives to switch sides.
He said he hasn't made a decision yet, but will decide soon.
“The Liberal party is seen as looking on the public trust as a vulture looks on a dying calf. Here we are, a G7 country, acting like a northern banana republic. What country is seen as more politically corrupt than us at the moment?” Kilgour said, speaking from Ottawa. ...
“If you draw up a thing to make people want to vomit, this is it,” Kilgour said about the details emerging from the sponsorship inquiry. “I have no desire for people to throw me out on my ear.”
David Kilgour has been my friend for over 25 years. He was first elected to Canada's Parliament in 1979. In my opinion David Kilgour is a man of great honor and integrity.
Here is a copy of an e-mail message I have sent to David.

Subject: Please cross over and become a Conservative MP
To: The Honourable David Kilgour, M.P.
Greetings David,
This note is to encourage you to do what is right for Canada and to take the necessary steps to become a Conservative Member of Parliament.
Twenty six years ago this spring you and I met for the first time. You were a new M.P. from Alberta and I was an aide to John Diefenbaker.
Over the years I have come to very much respect and admire you because of your great integrity and honesty and your Christian values.
To me you are truly a great Canadian patriot and an outstanding parliamentarian.
I very much encourage you to join the Conservative caucus. It is my heartfelt belief you would be doing what is right for Canada.
My friend I will pray for you and God bless you.
Very respectfully
Michael

David Kilgour has been one of the better members of Parliament. The question is how many times can Kilgour switch parties without losing the integrity he served with over all these years. David has now jumped out of the liberal party and into an independent seat in the House of Commons. His next honourable move should be to announce that he will not be seeking re-election at the drop of the next writ. If the Harper Conservatives form govenment it is highly likely they would appoint Kilgour to some post or hire him for some government project to reward him for leaving the liberals. David Kilgour has served his time and all matters of life come to an end. Kilgour has reached that point in his political career. It would be a shame for him to pointlessly carry on as did Joe Clark. To add one further relevant point, if Paul Martin loses the next election he too should step aside and let the future of Canadian politics proceed with new blood. Each of us must face the end and we will one way or another. Why needlessly fight it at the expense of our own personal integrity?
