Berlin —
Conservative leader Angela Merkel on Monday confirmed Monday that a coalition deal has been reached to make her Germany's first female chancellor under the terms of a power-sharing agreement that would end Gerhard Schroeder's seven years in office.
The deal was "good and fair," Ms. Merkel said at a news conference, adding that the parties agreed that "there is no alternative to a reform course" for Germany.
